FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Diffferentials

What are the differences between your various differential rebuild kits?

SANDCRAFT offers a variety of rebuild kits to meet your needs.

Bearing and Seal Rebuild Kits

We upgrade every bearing tolerance, while utilizing heat treated inner and outer races combined with higher quality seals. These kits are designed to upgrade your front differential and eliminate all bearing slop issues which provides a smoother running differential. Check out our Bearing and Seal Rebuild Kits.

Gen 2 Rebuild Kits

This kit includes the “Bearing and Seal Kit” plus our Billet Sprague, Upgraded Armature plate and our Billet Spring Retainer. Check out our Gen 2 Rebuild Kits.

We do offer in house rebuilds, meaning you ship your front differential to us and trust our professional team to properly install your rebuild kit. We meticulously clean and inspect all components during install. Once completed, every differential is bench tested to ensure proper working order and then carefully packaged and shipped with tracking numbers. At SANDCRAFT Motorsports we take pride in everything we do.

Do your DIY differential rebuild kits come with H clips and/or rollers?

They do not. However, rest assured that we have you covered should you come across any issues during your rebuild. You can email us pictures and descriptions at info@sandcraftmotorsports.com or call a trusted SANDCRAFT professional at (480) 539-4438.

What materials are your armature plates, spragues and spring retainers made of?

SANDCRAFT Armature Plates are cut from cold rolled steel, which increases strain hardening by more than 20%. In addition, we added more than 50% extra material in critical weak spots that drastically reduce the strain on the armature plates engagement tabs (which are machined into the armature plates, unlike the factory tabs, which are bent into shape).

SANDCRAFT Spragues are designed to increase four-wheel drive engagement while increasing load characteristics. This precision cut billet aluminum is then hardened so that it can withstand all the torture your right foot can throw at it.

SANDCRAFT Spring Retainers are billet aluminum with internal and external engagement properties that raise the bar in durability and dynamic loads. It is designed to be married with the SANDCRAFT Armature Plate only.

What in-house differential rebuild services does SANDCRAFT offer?

SANDCRAFT specializes in front differential rebuilds. Our team has very specific quality control procedures that ensure great care and attention to detail. Our in-house team bench tests every differential before it ships, taking all the variables out of the equation to make sure you get the best product. SANDCRAFT offers transmission rebuild services as well. Transmissions often need new bearings, seals and replacement gears. This has to be done perfectly to create durability you can trust. With many parts in stock and custom made shims to set backlash, you know our team is dedicated to you. Click HERE for front differential shipping instructions.

What is the turnaround time for your in house differential rebuilds?

Turnaround time is about 10 business days, on average, from the day we receive your differential to the day it ships back out to you. Rest assured our team is working diligently to minimize your machines downtime during repairs.

Why should I send my differential to you versus going the DIY kit route?

Do you have noise coming from your front differential? Are you having 4WD engagement issues? Stuck in 4WD or cannot get into 4WD? Tired of the dealer telling you that noise and other issues are acceptable?

While we offer many parts for you to repair and upgrade your stock differential, some front differentials need a little more TLC.

Send us your current front differential and our certified technician will troubleshoot and correct your issues. With the full Gen 2 Bulletproof Rebuild, SANDCRAFT eliminates all of the plastic OEM parts and upgrades all of the internals with SANDCRAFT parts, bench load tests your differential and then we ship it back to you. It’s the easiest and most efficient way to solve any differential issues you may be having while preparing you for wherever the road (or lack of road) takes you.

Carrier Bearings

What is the difference between a SANDCRAFT carrier bearing and an OEM unit?

SANDCRAFT Motorsports has the only PATENTED carrier bearing in the world! We have created a true solution by adjusting the operating angles of the driveline. Also, our patented carrier bearing is designed to be a greasable bearing while having 3 layers of protection to keep dirt, sand, mud and water out. Our all new auto set angle and 2 piece design will lower installation time dramatically as well. Auto set angle has never been easier. It allows you to press the bearing onto the shaft and install with minimal effort.

What is the difference between a SANDCRAFT carrier bearing and a competitor’s?

Operating angles are the most important factor to upgrading your carrier bearing. No one can correct the operating angle like we can and this makes the SANDCRAFT carrier far superior to any competitors. With competitor carrier bearings, side loading the bearing inside the carriers leads to premature wear and failure. Don’t be fooled by other billet aluminum housings and greaseable bearings. They do not solve the underlying issues that result in premature drivetrain failure. The auto set angle of SANDCRAFT carrier bearings eliminates this from happening to your car. We are the only company in the world with this design, so don’t waste your time with the copycats.

What is a “grease whip” and why do I need it?

SANDCRAFT Carrier Bearings allow you to service your bearing by adding grease through a fitting mounted to the housing. The grease whip inserts into the housing, allowing you to run the tube up through your center console so that you don’t have to crawl under your car to add grease. Who likes working underneath muddy, dirty cars? No one.

Are your factory replacement u-joints greasable? Are they an upgrade from OEM?

Both the RZR U-joint replacements and SANDCRAFT U-joint replacements are greasable and are upgraded with the best internals, needle bearings and grease that money can buy.

What is the difference between a SANDCRAFT driveline and an OEM driveline?

SANDCRAFT drivelines solve three major critical issues. This upgraded driveline is rated three times stronger than stock, it’s upgraded with larger U-joints, larger yokes, larger stub shaft with master spline and larger diameter chromoly shafts with double the wall thickness when compared the stock/OEM drivelines. This is coupled with a “Phased and Balanced” critical driveline manufacturing process that makes for the perfect combination. When you operate your UTV over 40 MPH you are exceeding what the driveline is rated for. Our driveline was engineered for your machines capabilities and much, much more.

What is the difference between a SANDCRAFT driveline and a competitor’s?

SANDCRAFT drivelines are designed to handle critical dynamic loads by maximum attention to detail. We have calculated twist loads, causing a severe need for increased U-joint and tube diameters, all while being phased and balanced. When packaged with our PATENTED carrier bearing it is the absolute best option. This heavy duty package is designed to be installed with ease. Every nut, bolt and Loctite needed is provided making this install easier than any other option.

What makes Gates CVT belts better than OEM?

Gates G-Force™ RedLine™ CVT Belts are engineered from a patented, fiber-reinforced Ethylene Elastomer compound, providing maximum transverse stiffness and unmatched heat resistance which allows for increased durability, greater load-carrying capability and a higher effective operating temperature.

What are limit straps and why do I need them?

The SANDCRAFT Limit Strap Kit protects your axles and suspension components by preventing the over extension of your UTV’s suspension at full droop. Our easy to install kit cushions the drop and protect the shocks, CV joints, axles and steering components from damage caused by over extension.

How firm are your sway bars? Are your sway bars adjustable?

Our progressive rate Sway Bar combo has top of line parts configured into the best all around handling characteristics. Whether you rock crawl or run wide open this is designed for you. The Sway Bar arm has 3 holes of adjustability. Move the bolt closer to the main tube to stiffen your ride to its maximum level or move the bolt as far away from the man tube to allow the softest feel. Rest assured the good guys at SANDCRAFT have gone the extra mile to heat treat, harden and anodize all key parts to make sure it’s the best product available.

What are the benefits of the SANDCRAFT motor mount kit?

SANDCRAFT Motorsports billet motor mounts are the only solution for decreasing your rear output shaft angle. Our integrated designs help decrease the rear output shaft and operating angle, as well as decreases motor/transmission vibration with our new Kevlar infused bushings that are rated to absorb the constant load of the motor and torque when under load. Not only that, but it also increases the slip yoke ability within the spline shaft and allows for less stress transferred into the driveline and transmission’s the internal components.

DESTROYER Tires

Are all of your paddle tires called “Destroyers”? What are your paddle choices?

Yes, all of our paddle tires are called “Destroyers”. We provide several paddle options for all horsepower ratings from 100 to 400+. We currently offer Extremes, Talons, Rippers, Demons and Diggers. See our Destroyer Horsepower Chart to find the best option for your application.

Are your tires specifically made for UTVs? And what ply are they?

Yes, our tires are specifically manufactured and rated for UTVs only. They are 2-ply rated for lighter construction. It’s all about rotating mass and we get that.

I want an all-around dune tire. What do you recommend?

We recommend our Extreme or Talon paddles for all-around duning. They give you the best of both worlds as they’re great for bowl riding/sliding and full top-speed runs with few restrictions.

Are your tires a true 31”, 32” and 33”?

Our tires do come in true sizes, unlike our competitors. Please use our roll out formula (above) to find the exact diameter you are looking for.

Formula: ROLL OUT / π = EXACT DIAMETER
For example: 102 / 3.14 = 32.5”

What does “roll out” mean and why do my front tires have a taller roll out than my rears?

Roll out tells you the exact circumference/outer-diameter (in inches) of your paddle tires, which can also tell you the diameter using the following formula.

Formula: ROLL OUT / π = EXACT DIAMETER
For example: 102 / 3.14 = 32.5”

What Destroyer paddle tire do you recommend for drag racing?

Our Demon and Digger paddles are the perfect choice for drag racing and it all depends on your rear wheel horsepower output and the distance you’d like to race. Call our shop to make sure you get the ideal set of Destroyers for your riding style.

Why do your front tires have a mohawk?

Our Mohawk design provides two major advantages in a front tire: It pulls harder in 4WD and acts as a steer tire instead of pushing in turns like a standard buffed tire.

I purchased a new UTV. Which Destroyer tire do you recommend?

Check out the Destroyer Horsepower Chart. It will show you paddle options relative to your wheel horsepower output rating and guide you to make the right choice for your specific application.

Why are your paddle tires buffed?

We ruff buff our tires to provide tons of grip and the most lightweight tire to always pull ahead of the competition.

Why are your tires not buffed on the sidewalls?

Keeping our sidewalls not buffed provides less body roll in turns, longer durability and less chance of air leaking out of the sidewalls.

How much do your Destroyer paddle tires weigh?

Our 2-ply rated tires are the lightest, yet strongest, on the market. For our front Mohawks, the 31” tires weigh 18.8 lbs, 32” weigh 20.5 lbs and 33” weigh 21.7 lbs. The rear tires weigh slightly more depending on paddle count.

SANDCRAFT Wheels

How much do your 3-piece billet wheels (Nitro, Nomad, Nexus and Merica) weigh?

About 14 lbs. We make them light as possible without sacrificing strength and durability to withstand 100+ ft hucks.

What size wheels do you recommend for desert riding?

We recommend 8” wide wheels on all 4 corners with 6 + 2 offsets.

What size wheels do you recommend for the dunes?

We recommend 8” wide wheels in the front and 11” wide in the rears.

Why do you recommend a narrow wheel in the front for a dune setup?

Narrow front wheels give your tires a taller rollout when you launch from a stop and assist your suspension to squat in the rear, which helps pull in four wheel drive as well.

Why do you recommend a wide wheel in the rear for a dune set up?

Wide wheels spread out the tire and load of the UTV and give a balloon effect, which assists in staying on top of sand instead of sinking.

What is the benefit of a 3-piece billet wheel?

They are lightweight, offer custom offset/sizing options and they are easily repairable (usually 1/3 the cost of replacing a bent or damaged wheel).

What is the offset of your front and rear wheels?

3-piece billet front: 6+2 (8” wide) – 3-piece billet rear: 5.5+5.5 (11” wide)
Spun aluminum front: 5+2 (7” wide) – Spun aluminum rear: 5+5 (10” wide)

Can I use stock lug nuts on your wheels?

Yes, we custom make them to fit so you don’t have to order a second set.

Why do you recommend a 6+2 offset front wheel?

Most competitors offer a 4+4 offset, which widens your UTV’s track and creates more stress on its suspension. We take the opposite approach to keep the wheels tucked in so they don’t affect the bump steer and lessen the load on your suspension.
